U.S. News & World Report listed Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business 5th in its annual ranking of online graduate business programs, up from 7th last year.
U.S. News evaluates schools by examining all of their online (non-MBA) degrees as a whole. Georgetown McDonough’s ranking was based on data from its only online program, the Master of Science in Finance. Among schools in the ranking that also offer an online MSF, Georgetown McDonough is 2nd.
“It is an amazing feat for Georgetown McDonough’s MSF program to carry us to the top of a ranking that includes schools with many online programs and that have been offering online education much longer than us,” said Allan Eberhart, director of the MSF program and professor of finance. “We have built a quality program, with the academic rigor, personalized attention, and global focus you expect from a Georgetown program.”
For the ranking, U.S. News evaluated online programs (excluding MBAs) from multiple business disciplines in the areas of student engagement, admissions selectivity, student services and technology, faculty credentials and teaching, and peer assessment.
The Georgetown MSF offers asynchronous learning through its Anytime Media platform and synchronous weekly case discussions in its blended classroom, where students have the option to attend in person or remotely from anywhere in the world. It also includes the signature Global Business Experience, where students consult for a company abroad and then travel to present recommendations to senior leadership. The program now offers two tracks – students can complete the program part-time while continuing to work full-time, or on a full-time basis that includes supplemental career preparation coursework to help the student pursue an internship or a full-time job. Students in both tracks are united into a single cohort for the duration of the program to encourage comradery and colearning among classmates.
